OXFORD 3/26/09
Oxford
It was around the early part of 1977 that I found a hall in Oxford to begin having services in. The Summertown Church Hall was located on Banbury Road in Summertown area of Oxford. We moved from where we had been living in Cheltenham to a home in Abingdon which is south of Oxford. Later we purchased a home in Kidlington just about 3 miles from the church hall we rented for services. By this time I had obtained an old printing press that used metal plates that you had to burn the print to. We started printing leaflets by the thousands. I was able to locate a 2 bedroom Caravan for Brother Mogg and Brother Plumb to live in. After they moved in we then began giving out leaflets downtown and then they would work going door to door inviting people to come to the meetings. At this time I had to preach in High Wycombe as well as Oxford but I had backing from many of the people from High Wycombe helping us in the opening of the new work in Oxford. One Sunday A couple came to church that Brother Plumb had invited from the outreach. Their name was Paul and Carolyn Goodhall. Paul spoke to me after the service and told me that they had really felt the Lord in the service and would be coming back. It was not long after that I baptized them in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ for the remission of their sins. God also filled them with the baptism of his Holy Spirit. Paul and his wife began to join with us in outreach and soon we had a good group of young people coming to the services with God filling them with his Spirit one by one. Some of these included Daryl and Cathy who Fred had met and got to come visit the services. God touched them and filled them with his Spirit. Some few months after we had started the services a couple of English ladies came. One was named Margaret and the other was Sylvia Faulkner. It was Sylvia that really stood out in the services because of her likable personality. After the first service she must have really enjoyed it because she became a regular and was great in getting other people to come to the meetings. Another family that began coming was Bill and Mabel Wright. They were an older couple that had a large Ford Transit bus with Jesus slogans all over it. Bill and Mabel had been involved in street outreach. They regularly would go downtown and hold placards or banners relating to scripture or sayings about the Lord. They were such a lovely couple and enhanced the church to a great degree. It was not long before we had quite a good group of people coming. Brother Paul had brought to church another man by the name of Geoffrey who really became a blessing to the work of God there. One Sunday an older lady walked into the meeting by the name of . When I asked her how she had come to know about the services she pulled out a leaflet and showed me. It was a leaflet that I had placed in a mail slot of a home on the south side of Oxford. During the service God touched her and after the meeting was over she asked me to baptize her in Jesus name. That evening after service we travelled over to a river area to baptize her. I baptized the first person and when I looked for her she was not there. I called out and asked if anyone had seen her. I was in the River Thames and it was freezing cold. All of a sudden I saw a Lady running toward me. In the dark it looked like she was naked, but when she got near to me I realized she was wearing a flesh colored bathing suit. She was cold as she entered into the water and I told her to call on Jesus and he would warm the water up for her. Later after she came up she related to me that indeed the water had warmed up for her after she asked Jesus to help her. It always seemed to work on those being baptized. One by one we kept seeing people come in, receive the Holy Ghost and we would baptize them in Jesus name. I remember Sister Sylvia coming up to me one day and she said Pastor Duke The Assembly of God does not have a Pastor and many of the people there would merge with us if I did not preach that they had to be rebaptized in Jesus name. I looked at Sylvia and I said I can not do that as I really believe that one has to have the name of Jesus spoken over them in water baptism in order to have their sins washed away. Remission of sins means the washing away of their sins. God had revealed to me that it was in water baptism that by calling on the name of Jesus that the blood was applied to their lives. Without the name they would only come forth from the water with their sins still upon them. The name of the Father Son and Holy Ghost was in Jesus Christ. Col: 2:8 Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ. 2:9 For in him dwelleth all the fullness of the Godhead bodily.2:10 And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power Christians use the name of Jesus for healing and deliverance but many reject it when it comes to being baptized.
